DNF for Jaimie from Sikkelerus after good pace in superpole on Misano

Jaimie van Sikkelerus was able to qualify 19th for the World Supersport race in Misano with small differences to the top ten. After a bad start Van Sikkelerus had to catch up. After the Honda driver had won a number of places, he crashed in the fifth round in a catch-up action and unfortunately his race was over prematurely.

A large field of 34 drivers started Friday at the seventh round of the World Supersport Championship, the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli. In addition to the regular drivers there were also several fast Italian wildcar drivers at the start. Jaimie van Sikkelerus finished 24th on Friday. The MPM WILSport Raceday's driver was not satisfied with the position, but the distance to the top fifteen was very small. The second training day was a positive day for Van Sikkelerus. During the Superpole qualifying session Van Sikkelerus was on the right track and managed to improve his time by no less than 1.2 seconds. This gave the 22-year-old driver a nineteenth place on the starting grid. The differences between them were again very small, because the positions from nine to nineteen were within one second of each other.

Van Sikkelerus had a bad start, losing eight places in the first lap. Then the Honda driver quickly found his pace and managed to win several positions. In the fifth lap the engine went wrong, however, when the engine went completely wrong in an attempt to overtake a rider. Sikkelerus lost the rear and crashed. The driver from Akersloot quickly picked up his bike again, but the bike was too damaged to continue. Because of this the race of Van Sikkelerus in Misano ended prematurely.

Jaimie van Sikkelerus: 'The Superpole went well and I managed to improve my lap time considerably. I had a bad start. The revs fell away and I lost a lot of places. I came up with some places and during a overtaking action I had to brake very late. I felt the bike go all the way and when I steered in, the rear broke away. I did pick up the bike again, but my brakes didn't work anymore. It was a shame, because the feeling was good after qualifying.

In two weeks (5-7 July) the next round of the World Supersport Championship will be at Donington Park, one of the Sikk's favourite tracks.
