Bad luck for David Vegter at the Scandinavian Internationals

Tierp (Sweden), August 26, 2013 - For MPM-driver David Vegter the Scandinavian Internationals at Tierp Arena was already over before it could really begin. At the first day of qualifying the Dutchman clocked 6.17 seconds and was the number five qualifier out of a 32 car field. But in the run the engine of the '67 Camaro suffered serious damage and that was so bad, it was beyond repair at the track. So that made an early end to Vegter Pro Mod Racing's Swedish race after one day only. Despite this major setback, Vegter only lost one place in the FIA European Pro Modified Championship and with one race to go, the MPM-driver is now the number five in this extremely competitive series.

The Scandinavian Internationals at Tierp Arena was the fifth and penultimate round of the FIA European Drag Racing Championship. As Tierp Arena is Europe's fastest and most state of the art dragstrip, and there were 32 Pro Mods entered, MPM-driver David Vegter and his Vegter Pro Mod Racing were looking forward to this great race. But Vegter was not looking for new personal bests and a good result only, the MPM-driver was also eager to regain his second spot in the FIA European Championship. Friday qualifying started with a severe tyre shake, but as the MPM-driver hardly lifted the throttle, the run was a good 6.3 seconds. In the second qualifying run Friday afternoon Vegter improved to 6.17 seconds and that put the '67 Camaro into a great fifth qualifying position out of the 32 car field. But when the team checked the engine they saw they broke the main bearing caps, a problem they could not fix at the track. So the Swedish race came to an early end for Vegter and his team. Although Vegter did not make a run on the second day of qualifying, at the end he was still the number nine out of the 32 car field. Knowing there was far more to come after that 6.17 seconds, a big disappointment for the Dutch drag racer as a top five position would have been possible. Although the MPM-driver could not collect any points is eliminations, Vegter only lost one place in the FIA European Championship and with one race to go, is the number five in the championship. This last race is the European Finals at Santa Pod Raceway in England and will be held from September 6 to 8. The '67 Camaro will be back in perfect conditions again and Vegter Pro Mod Racing will do their very best to finish the season at a high and to regain at least one place in the FIA European Championship.
